Brendan Hogan and Eric White achieve rank of Eagle Scout

Brendan Hogan and Eric White advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony on June 1, 2022.

Brendan Hogan's Eagle Scout project was to build a deck for United Way of Midland County.

Eric White's Eagle Scout project was to build a gazebo for The Arc of Midland.

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held for Brendan Hogan and Eric White of Boy Scout Troop 768 on June 1 for advancing to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America. The ceremony took place at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic School, Charter Organization for Troop 768. Scoutmaster Phil Ziegler was the master of ceremonies.

To earn the rank, each Scout was required to earn at least 21 merit badges, serve as an active leader within their troop, demonstrate knowledge of outdoor skills and lead a major community service project.

Brendan, son of Todd and Cyndee Hogan, will be a senior at Midland High School. Brendan joined Boy Scouts of America in 2011 as a Tiger Cub in first grade and continued through Webelos II with Pack 3758, earning his Arrow of Light. He became a Boy Scout with Troop 768 in 2016. He earned 32 merit badges, and the Totin’ Chip, Firem’n Chit, Cyber Chip, 75 miler, and Duty to God awards and earned Eagle Bronze and Gold Palms. Brendan also earned the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei Religious Emblems. His leadership positions included junior assistant Scoutmaster, senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief and quartermaster. Brendan completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on Nov. 10, 2021.

Brendan’s Eagle Scout service project was to build a deck for United Way of Midland County. The 10x12 foot deck was built on their property at 115 Jerome St. in Midland and will serve as an outdoor work and gathering space for the community organization. Brendan worked a total of 74 hours planning and executing the project, while six youth and five adult volunteers from Troop 768 worked an additional 180 hours on the project. Construction of the deck required multiple work days to dig and pour the support piers, frame the deck, lay the deck boards and build the stairs and railing.

Eric, son of Paul and Kimberly White, will be a senior at Midland High School. Eric joined Boy Scouts of America in 2011 as a Tiger Cub in first grade and continued through Webelos II with Pack 3758, earning his Arrow of Light. He became a Boy Scout with Troop 768 in 2016. He earned 38 merit badges, and the Totin’ Chip, Firem’n Chit, and Cyber Chip awards and earned Eagle Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms. He also earned the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei Religious Emblems. His leadership positions included: junior assistant Scoutmaster, troop guide, senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief and scribe. Eric completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on Dec. 17, 2021.

Eric’s Eagle Scout Service Project was building a 12x16 foot wooden gazebo with an aluminum roof for The Arc of Midland on their back patio. Eric worked over 40 hours planning and executing the project, while 21 other people volunteered and worked 220 hours to assemble and secure the gazebo. Highlights of Eric’s project was his experience of going before the City of Midland’s Variance Zoning Board of Appeals to present a request for a variance, which was granted.
